eSMART Program

Voorhees College eSMART Saturday & Summer Academy

The Voorhees College Environmental Science, Mathematics, and Related Technology (eSMART) Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, is designed to increase the high school student’s interest in the STEM fields and their desire to pursue degrees in environmental science, math, biology, emergency management and computer science.  The Voorhees College eSMART Saturday & Summer Academy provides training with course studies in the STEM fields, laboratory experiments, research development, along with recreational activities on the campus of Voorhees College.  The eSMART program also includes services and strategies designed to retain each participant in STEM majors when they matriculate into college.

PROGRAM DATES

For College Interns Only

(Planning period) August 12-September 6, 2013              

Saturday Academy

1st & 3rd Saturday, September 7, 2013-April 5, 2014, 9am – 12noon

Summer Academy

Daily June 1, -June 30, 2014, Overnight Monday-Thursday

COST

FREE to high school students (9th through 12th grades) who meet the requirements. 

STIPEND

Each student will receive a stipend.  Attendance at all sessions is required.  Students are expected to arrive on time and participate in camp activities for full compensation.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school students with an enthusiasm for math and science and a strong mathematical aptitude are encouraged to apply.  You must be a U.S. citizen!  For additional applications, please go to Voorhees College website www.voorhees.edu/esmart.

THE SELECTION PROCESS
Selection is based on a composite review of the student essay, grades, and teacher recommendations. Applications must be postmarked no later than August 30, 2013. Upon acceptance, you will receive further information concerning the program.
