Voorhees Honors Convocation features 16-year-old law student
March 12, 2012
On Thursday, March 29, at 10:30 a.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson
Health and Human Resources Center, Voorhees will host its annual Honors Day
Convocation to recognize its community of scholars.
The guest speaker for the convocation will be Ty Hobson-Powell,
a 16-year-old African American male, who is currently completing his first year
of law school at North Carolina Central University (NCCU).
Crediting his achievements to having a semi-photographic memory, Hobson-Powell enrolled at NCCU after becoming the youngest person to graduate from the University of Baltimore at age 15, finishing a four-year degree in two years.
Having siblings who are also
accomplished, his older sister graduated from high school at the age of 17 and
college at the age 19.
After he graduates from NCCU, he has plans of attending medical
school.
