Voorhees holds commissioning ceremony for Commissionee Jones

Voorhees College
will conduct a commissioning ceremony for a 2012 graduate on Friday, August 24
at 2 p.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. The event
is free and open to the public.
Darnell Allen Jones, a native of Summerville, will receive an active duty commission in the Engineer Corps. Jones is the son of SFC (retired) Earl and Patricia Woodbury. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mass communications from Voorhees.
Jones’ accomplishments include Army Scholarship recipient, Voorhees College ROTC Detachment Commander, National Society of Pershing Rifles Military Fraternity, Ranger Challenge Team, NAACP member and White Rose Social Club member.
The speaker for the ceremony will be Lieutenant Colonel Rodney Jenkins. Jenkins earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering of technology from South Carolina State University, where he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves.
LTC Jenkins
transitioned to Army National Guard where he initiated his military career
while working as an engineer for the Navy in a civilian capacity. After
reaching rank of Captain, he was acquired into the Active Guard Reserve program
for the National Guard.
