Voorhees prepares for 2012 Homecoming festivities

Voorhees College Homecoming Week 2012 is scheduled for November 4-10. The theme for homecoming is “Celebrating a New Beginning of Commitment and Creativity.”

The week-long celebration will kick off with a gospel extravaganza on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in Massachusetts Hall. The event will feature the Voorhees College Gospel Choir along with choirs from Claflin University, Charleston Southern University and South Carolina State University. Allen Holmes, Jr., a saxophonist, will also perform during the event. This event is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, Nov. 6

Comedy Show featuring comedian B-Phlat and friends – 7 p.m., Massachusetts Hall. Price: $3-VC students; $7-general admission.

Thursday, Nov. 8

Concert featuring Plies- 7 p.m., Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. Price: $5-VC students; $12-general admission.

Friday, Nov. 9

National Alumni Association Meeting and Registration: Reunion Classes end with “2” and “7,” 1987 (silver class), 1962 (golden class)- 9 a.m., St. James Building. There will be a national alumni membership drive taking place. The cost is $20, and it includes national membership and lunch. Alumni will also be able to purchase pre-paid Homecoming packets during registration.

Reunion Class Meetings and Photos-2 p.m., St. James Building Auditorium.

Day Party featuring live music, comedians and hors d'oeuvre - 3 p.m., Voorhees College Student Center. Price: $18.97.

Voorhees College 10th Annual Hall of Fame Banquet- 7 p.m., Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. Price: $50 per person; $500 per table (seats 8). Honorees are David Miller ’84, Dorothy Patterson ’73, Sarah Simpson ’77 and Irene Singletary ’66 and ’70.

Old School Party featuring unlimited hors d'oeuvre- 9:30 p.m., Massachusetts Hall. Price: $20.

Saturday, Nov. 10

Voorhees College Homecoming Parade-10 a.m., Beginning on Maple Street, Downtown Denmark.

Tiger Den (Voorhees Alumni Official Tailgate Area) featuring music, food and giveaways-11 a.m., Outside area of Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center.

Homecoming Basketball Games (Lady Tigers v. Edward Waters College/ Tigers v. OC Tech)- 1 p.m./3 p.m., Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. Price: $8-VC students; $15-general admission. During halftime of the men’s game, alumni Hall of Fame honorees will be recognized. Additionally, reporting of donations from chapters, classes in reunion and affinity groups will take place during half time of the men’s game.

Class of 1962 Reunion Drop-In- 5 p.m.-7 p.m., President’s House

Homecoming Greek Step Show- 7 p.m., Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. Price: $15

Official Step Show After Party (All Black Affair) featuring unlimited hors d'oeuvre- 9:30 p.m., Massachusetts Hall. Price: $25 general admission; $50-VIP admission.

Tiger Shuttle, transportation services for alumni and friends, will be available on Friday and Saturday. The shuttle will transport alumni and friends back and forth from Voorhees College to selected hotels in Orangeburg, S.C. A weekend pass, which will include Friday and Saturday, is $20.
