Voorhees Tigers win 2013 A.I.I. Championship

The Voorhees College Tigers won the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Men's Division I Basketball Conference Championship defeating West Virginia University Institute of Technology by a score of 65-64.  

By winning the A.I.I. Championship, the Tigers have advanced to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Championship in Kansas City, Mo. the week of March 13-19. 

Voorhees' Jeffrey Evans, a senior from Fort Myers, Fla., was named most valuable player. Evans was the leading scorer with 27 points against Cal State-San Marcos, Calif. and 18 points against West Virginia University Institute of Technology. Evans' teammate Brandon Allen, a senior from Queens Village, N.Y., was named to the A.I.I. Division 1 All-Tournament Team.  

Although the Voorhees Lady Tigers were defeated by West Virginia Institute of Technology with a close score of 60-57, Voorhees' Kierra Patterson, a senior from Darlington, S.C., was selected for the A.I.I. Division 1 All-Tournament Team as well.  

A celebration pep rally for the Tigers will be held on Thursday, March 7 at 12:05 p.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center.
