Voorhees holds its annual Founderís Day Convocation

Voorhees College will celebrate its annual Founderís Day Convocation Thursday, April 11 at 10 a.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. The speaker for this occasion will be the current director for the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity at the United States Department of Energy.   Nominated for this position by President Barack Obama, the Honorable LaDoris G. Harris leads the Department of Energyís efforts to ensure minorities and historically underrepresented communities are afforded an opportunity to participate fully in our energy programs.

Harris oversees a corporate funding strategy for minority institutions, develops the current and future departmental workforce, works closely to develop small business contracting opportunities at the department and protects the civil rights of departmental employees and recipients of funding from the department.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Science degree in technology management from Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Ga.   Following Founderís Day Convocation, Voorhees will hold a Founderís Day Luncheon to honor all commissioned graduates. The luncheon will be held in Massachusetts Hall Auditorium, and tickets are $25.
