Radio week at Voorhees planned

The faculty, staff and students of WVCD 790 AM will be hosting radio week at Voorhees College from Sunday, Aug. 25 through Thursday, Aug. 29.
The week will kick off with a local choir showcase Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in Massachusetts Hall auditorium. This event will feature various gospel choirs and groups such as Gr8FL of Orangeburg, Richard Jamison and Vision of Orangeburg, Gethsemane Baptist Church Choir of Bamberg, TAP of Columbia and the Voorhees College Praise Dance Ministry.
On Monday, Aug. 26, there will be a grand reopening/ribbon cutting ceremony for the radio station at 10 a.m. The radio station staff will show all upgrades and improvements that have taken place in the radio within the last year. There will be a spoken word/open mic event this evening at 7 p.m. in Massachusetts Hall.
Additional events for radio week include an 11 a.m. assembly on Thursday, Aug. 29 in Massachusetts Hall featuring Harvey Elwood, executive producer of New Perspectives Media, a community affairs and public information television and radio broadcast. New Perspectives Media also provides instruction to students studying mass communications and journalism.
During the assembly, Marcus Burgess, vice president of institutional advancement, will speak to the students about the importance of giving back to Voorhees. Burgess will be spearheading a philanthropy kickoff cookout Thursday at 3 p.m.
