On October, 29, the Voorhees College Tigers held the 2013-2014 season opener and gained a 91-80 victory against Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.
"It is indeed basketball season again. It is that time of year to "lace up" and hit the court again and that's just what we did," said Michael Cheaney, head men's basketball coach.
During the first half of the game, the score stayed close. As the Tigers returned to the game in the second half, they ran up the score by 15 points in the first five minutes.
"This was the first time in a while that we were in front of this home crowd, and it can be a little distracting," said Demetrius Cleveland, student coach.
"We wanted to come back out and make a statement on defense and make some room on the score board to get some of our younger guys some court time."
From that point on, the Tigers led in the game and cruised to a 90-81 victory.
H. Langler and C. Heyward led O.C. Tech in scoring with 12 points each. Josh Corry of Voorhees led all scores with 18 points.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 9, as they perform for their Voorhees fans against the Brewton-Parker College Barons for Voorhees College Homecoming 2013.
