Voorhees celebrates the life of the late Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Denmark, S.C. -- The Rev. Charcey N. Priester of Saint Paul Baptist Church in Orangeburg, S.C. will be the featured speaker for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Celebration at Voorhees College on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. in Massachusetts Hall Auditorium on campus.
 
The theme for the 2014 MLK Day is "MLK Day: Citizenship and Service in Action."
 
Since Priester became pastor of Saint Paul Baptist Church, membership has grown tremendously, and the church has grown from one service to currently two services on Sundays.
 
Prior to becoming pastor of Saint Paul Baptist Church, Priester served as assistant pastor of Free Spirit Baptist Church in Orangeburg under the leadership of the late Rev. B. C. Dantzler. He served as moderator of the Old Ashley Baptist Training Union, and the union was transformed by his leadership.
 
Priester served as chaplain and encourager for incarcerated people at the Allendale County State Prison in Allendale, S.C. Also, he currently serves as the director of the Baptist Training Union at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, where services are broadcasted on Sundays at 1 p.m. on the campus radio station, 90.3 FM.
 
He earned a bachelor's degree in theology from William-Clement-Davis Seminary. He is married to Minister Sarah Priester, and they have two children, Charcey Jr. and Majesty Priester.
