Hyland speaks at MLK Day Unity Breakfast

January 6, 2014

Anthony Hyland, a senior mass communications major and recent Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Belford V. Lawson oratorical contest winner, will be the featured speaker at a Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Marine Corps Air Station Officers Club in Beaufort, S.C.

The unity breakfast is sponsored by the Xi Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. The theme is "Marching into the Dream: A Commemoration." Tickets to the event are $25 per person.

During his matriculation at Voorhees, Hyland has worked hard to maintain high academic standards and personal development. He immediately took office his freshman year as class president, and he also became vice president of the local NAACP chapter during his sophomore year. He is involved in numerous organizations, clubs and activities.

Since his junior year, he has served as president of the Eta Iota chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, which has given him access to a variety of audiences to display his talent of writing and reciting poems and other literary works. Through his poetry and newly founded non-profit organization, Hyland Enterprises, he strives to motivate and educate young minds into a more diverse mindset of thinking.
