Voorhees College Tigers Upset #7 Ranked Talladega College

James Williams scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Tigers in defeating the Talladega College Tornadoes 89-84 on February 3 in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center.

Currently, the Talladega College men’s basketball team is ranked #1 in the Gulf Coast Atlantic Conference and #7 in the National Athletic Intercollegiate Association Division 1 with a record of 19-3.

The Tornadoes’ record did not stop the Tigers from giving them a game to remember. The teams were neck and neck throughout the first half, but the Tornadoes finished the half with the lead, 35-30.

In the second half, the teams went back and forth causing an overtime period, 77-77.  In the overtime period, the Tigers took control with a commanding lead of 83-77.

The Tigers went to the line and finished the game with two clutch free throws from Dionte Ford and an ending score of 89-84.

Shondel Stewart led the Tornadoes with 24 points. Williams, who led the Tigers in scoring, also had four assists.

Williams said it felt good to beat the #1 ranked team and praised his teammates for the great win.

"I thank God for giving me the strength to play to the best of my ability and allowing my teammates and I to come together as a family and beat adversity. It wasn't just me. We all had a productive output in the big win tonight. TIGERPRIDE!"

Currently, the Tigers have a record of 8-12. The Tigers will take on Selma University in their next game in Selma, Ala.
