June 2, 2010

Jeffrey Pendergrass, a member of the Voorhees College Track and Field Team, became the first indoor and outdoor national champion at the institution.

During the recent 2010 NAIA National Track & Field Championship held at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind., Pendergrass came in first place in the 200-meter race with a time of 20.88.

In addition, Pendergrass placed sixth out of 30 competitors in the 100-meter race with a time of 10.56.

"I am very proud of Jeffery because he has accomplished something no one in the history of track and field has at Voorhees College," said Garon Jackson, head track and field/cross country coach.

"Jeffery is coachable, well mannered, and a bright young man. We expect great things from him in the future to come."

Earlier in the season, Pendergrass qualified for the USA Track & Field Nationals with a record-breaking time of 20.65 at Voorhees. This event will be hosted on ESPN on June 24.

Pendergrass, a native of Rock Hill, S.C., is a senior majoring in business administration with a concentration in finance.
