Voorhees celebrates Homecoming 2010

Voorhees College students, faculty, staff and alumni will enjoy many exciting activities during Homecoming 2010, which will take place November 7-13.

This year's homecoming theme is "Revisit, Reconnect and Recommit." The scheduled events include a Gospel Extravaganza on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Massachusetts Hall Auditorium featuring the Voorhees College Concert Choir. Admission is free of charge for this event.

The Voorhees College Homecoming Concert featuring Hip-Hop and R&B artists Roscoe Dash and Jeremih will be on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. Tickets are $5 for Voorhees students, $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

On Tuesday, Nov. 9, Voorhees will host the Homecoming Comedy Show in Massachusetts Hall Auditorium. The featured comedian will be Tony Roberts, who has made appearances on HBO's Def Comedy Jam and BET's Comic View. General admission tickets are $10. Tickets are available at no cost for Voorhees students.

Voorhees will also host its annual Homecoming National Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. Tickets are $50 per person and $500 per table, which seats eight.

There will be an Alumni Social as well on Friday, Nov. 12 beginning at 9:30 p.m. in Massachusetts Hall Auditorium. Admission is $10.

The annual Homecoming parade will be on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. beginning on Maple Street in Denmark. The Grand Marshal for the Homecoming parade is Kathleen Lebby Faust, a native of Denmark, S.C. and a 1939 graduate of Voorhees High School. Faust has been an educator for 39 years and remained in Bamberg School District Two for 38 consecutive years. She has a permanent professional teacher certificate with grade A on the National Teacher Examination.

The Voorhees College Tigers will face the Denmark Technical College Panthers during the Homecoming basketball games on Saturday, Nov. 13 in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. Tip-off is at 1 p.m. Tickets to the games are $8 for Voorhees students and $15 for general admission.

The 2nd annual President and First Lady's Jazz Reception will be on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. in the Cherry Blossom Room of the cafeteria. Tickets are $20.

The annual Homecoming Greek Step Show will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13. Tickets to the step show are $15.
