President Obama Administration appointee to address Voorhees graduates

The Voorhees College Class of 2011 will receive words of inspiration from a current President Obama Administration appointee during Commencement Convocation.

Dr. Lenny F. Springs II, who is a Federal Student Aid Senior Advisor in the U.S. Department of Education, will deliver the commencement address, which will be held Saturday, May 14 at 11 a.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center.

Springs joined President Barack Obamaís administration in November 2009. He works with the Education Department and Financial Student Aid (FSA) leadership to provide support to traditionally under-resourced colleges and universities, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), members of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and other organizations devoted to helping schools transition successfully to the Direct Loan Program.     

Additionally, he served as former president and CEO of The S-Group, Inc., an organizational development and a strategic management firm in Charlotte, N.C. This firm specializes in implementing business management and business development processes. Springs previously served as senior vice president, director of supplier diversity and vice president of community relations for the Wachovia Corporation.

  He earned a bachelorís degree in business administration from Voorhees College and was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Voorhees College.

 He is affiliated with various organizations including the Charlotte chapter of 100 Black Men of America, where he was a founding president for the chapter. Springs also served as vice chairman of the Voorhees College Board of Trustees.
