Message from the President

For more than a century, excellence has been the driving force behind Voorhees College. That tradition started with one brave young woman, Elizabeth Evelyn Wright, who withstood skepticism, threats and attacks to create the first-class institution of higher learning.

That tradition continues as Voorhees enters its 112th year of changing minds and changing lives. Though we live in a different day from Wright's era, our central mission endures, unaltered: Combine intellect and faith in guiding young adults along their chosen professional and personal paths. Our values-centered liberal arts education caters to the mind and the spirit. We prepare students for life by challenging them with new and expanded majors, enhanced learning technologies, internships and research projects. We do so in the best traditions of Christian institutions of higher education.

As we guide students toward their futures, we focus on Voorhees' future as well. Last year, my first as president, college leaders came together to reach consensus on seven areas crucial to Voorhees' continued success. From strengthening teaching to cultivating partnerships that will sustain the college financially and academically to increasing use to technology, those seven areas are at the heart of the 2008-20013 Strategic Plan. The plan lays out the principals that will guide Voorhees over the next five years. We are focused on and committed to implementing this plan for ensuring that Voorhees remains a vital, thriving community that nurtures the spirit and the intellect.

Voorhees is a special place with a proud past and a promising future. The entire Voorhees College family looks forward to you joining us for what promises to be a challenging passage to academic excellence.
