Voorhees
College is a four-year, co-educational, career-oriented liberal arts
college affiliated with the Episcopal Church and the United Negro
College Fund. Voorhees College is fully accredited by the Commission on
Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award

History
Founded
in 1897 by Elizabeth Evelyn Wright Menafee, Voorhees College’s mission
always has been to offer all students a quality comprehensive general
education, coupled with professional education, in a value-centered
liberal arts tradition. In addition, Voorhees College was the first
Historically Black College and University in South Carolina accredited
by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges

Our President
Dr.
Cleveland L. Sellers, Jr., a 1962 graduate of Voorhees High School and
well-known advocate in the civil rights movement, is serving as the

Our Community
Voorhees
College, which is designated as an Historic District in South Carolina,
consists of 342 acres in Bamberg County in the city of Denmark.
Voorhees is about 50 miles south of Columbia, 86 miles southeast of
Charleston and 53 miles west of Augusta, Georgia. Learn more about our community.
Academic Programs
Voorhees
College offers degrees in accounting, biology, business administration,
criminal justice, computer science, sociology, elementary education, English, health and
recreation, mathematics, mass communication, sport management and organizational
management.
Voorhees
offers a training program in cyber security education and has a special
partnership with the National Nuclear Security Administration that lets
students participate in summer internships in cyber security at various

Intercollegiate Sports
The
Voorhees College Tigers are in the Association of Independent
Institutions of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics
Division I. The Tigers compete in baseball, softball, women's
volleyball, men and women’s basketball, track and field, and cross
