On April 21, 2012, Voorhees College will host its First Gospel Choir Invitational Competition, an event geared toward raising funds for scholarships and campus and community development. The competition will begin at 10 a.m. and be produced by the college's radio station, WVCD 790AM, which has been a fixture for gospel music in the southern midlands of South Carolina for more than 30 years.
The one day event will see church, mass/community, collegiate, and high school gospel choirs come together for the chance to win large monetary prizes while also helping to enhance educational opportunities and creating a community-wide growth event for Voorhees College, Bamberg County, and the state as a whole.
Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. To purchase advanced tickets, contact Teesa Brunson, communications director, at 803-780-1194. Advanced tickets can be purchased up until April 13, 2012 by 4 p.m. and can be picked up on the day of the event with a picture ID. The Gospel Choir Invitational will be held in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center on campus.
For choirs that are interested in participating, please click here to complete the online registration form. The first place winner will receive $1,000, second place winner will receive $500, and third place winner will receive $250.The early registration fee is $60 and ends February 13, 2012. The late registration fee of $75 ends on February 29, 2012. Please mail your check or money order for the registration fee to Teesa Brunson, Institutional Advancement, P.O. Box 678, Denmark, SC 29042 by February 29, 2012. Please make all checks or money orders payable to Voorhees College.
