The Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) is a department under the Office of the Provost/Division of Academic Affairs. This office is charged with the responsibility of providing support to all University faculty, staff, students, administrative offices and/or departments (individually or collectively) in seeking and applying for external funding. Research endeavors that seek to enhance student activities, improve collegiate programs and services, and positively impact the greater community can be supported through grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, sponsorships, donations or a host of other mechanisms. To assist the members of the University in successfully navigating these streams of resources, the OSR is implementing a streamlined process for all grant applications submitted on behalf of Voorhees University.

Institutional Review Board (IRB)

The Voorhees University Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee appointed by the Vice President of Academic Affairs, charged to protect human participants involved in research and to ensure that this research is carried out in an ethical manner.*

Federal regulations stipulate that “…each institution or agency which conducts, or which proposes to conduct or authorize human research shall establish a human research review committee…No human research shall be conducted or authorized by such institution or agency unless…such committee has reviewed and approved the proposed human research project…” While Voorhees University’s policies are influenced by the guidelines of federal regulatory agencies, the Voorhees University IRB is the agency ultimately responsible for creating and overseeing policies relevant to human subjects research on campus.

Ultimately, investigators must be familiar with and behave according to the spirit and letter of federal and professional guidelines pertaining to human research. For more information on these federal regulations see the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services links on the right side of this page.

The following links have been developed to help you determine whether your research project requires IRB approval, and if so, to guide you through the application process. Contact the IRB should you have additional questions.

All IRB documents, such as application forms, training materials, and other information about IRB processes, are posted on the Academic Affairs website under Sponsored Research in the link labeled Research Integrity.
