ABOUT VOORHEES UNIVERSITY

In celebration of its 125th year of existence on April 7, 2022, Voorhees College was renamed Voorhees University to honor founder, Elizabeth Evelyn Wight. Voorhees University is a private, diverse, historically black, coeducational, liberal arts, baccalaureate degree-granting institution affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Located in rural Denmark, South Carolina, the University serves traditional and nontraditional students primarily from South Carolina and the southeastern region of the United States; however, seeks to expand our reach both nationally and internationally. Position: Dean, W. Franklin Evans Honors College
Department/Division: School of Graduate Studies, Continuing Education & Integrative Learning/Academic Affairs
Salary Range: $55,000 – $60,000
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Position Type/Duration: Full-time/12 months
Position Schedule: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (extended hours, evenings and weekends required)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Priorities and responsibilities include:

  • serving as a full-time faculty member in one of the academic schools. The position requires a professional record of teaching, research/scholarship, service and professional development that is commensurate with a faculty appointment.
  • enhancing the University’s reputation for attracting and graduating outstanding students and for supporting them in their pursuit and attainment of academic excellence.
  • plans and implements activities that foster a supportive learning community among the honors student cohort members.
  • leads University-wide processes and practices involving honors recruitment, marketing, admissions review, and student orientation/engagement.
  • fostering the development of appropriate Honors course work, approving substitutions for Honors Contracts, and for coordinating the system of faculty honors advising throughout the University.
  • coordinating and assessing effective curriculum.
  • building and supporting a strong and innovative honors faculty community.
  • advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in Honors College.
  • establishing and monitoring the University’s goals and objectives.
  • developing and implementing plans for evaluation, data collection, and evidence-based decision making.
  • participating in external fundraising.
  • cultivating partnerships for community engagement within Honors College.
  • working with colleges and departments to provide educational opportunities for Honors College students in all majors.
  • facilitating the Annual Honors College Induction and the Annual Honors and Academic Awards Banquet.
  • facilitating student engagement in honors activities to include National Association of African American Honors Programs (NAAAHP) and other honors conferences, University honor societies, Honda Campus All-Star Challenge, University Debate Team, Model United Nations, Model African Union

EDUCATION

  • An earned terminal degree from an accredited four-year college or university preferred, master’s degree considered

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Successful university record of teaching, research (including scholarship and creative activities), and service to warrant appointments at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor.
  • At least three years of experience in positions of leadership that include a focus on undergraduate student success.
  • Experience successfully supervising and managing office personnel.
  • A record of successful program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated record of successfully planning and executing activities to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for students, faculty members, and staff members.
  • Demonstrated commitment to shared governance. The incumbent must have demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three (3) years of professional experience in higher education with a full-time faculty appointment.
  • Evidence of successful leadership in student success and development.
  • Track record of successful grant raising and scholarship in higher education.
  • Previous experience working in a liberal arts environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication proficiency.
  • Demonstrated leadership in education.
  • Exceptional management competency.
