ABOUT VOORHEES UNIVERSITY
In celebration of its 125th year of existence on April 7, 2022, Voorhees College was renamed Voorhees University to honor founder, Elizabeth Evelyn Wight. Voorhees University is a private, diverse, historically black, coeducational, liberal arts, baccalaureate degree-granting institution affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Located in rural Denmark, South Carolina, the University serves traditional and nontraditional students primarily from South Carolina and the southeastern region of the United States; however, seeks to expand our reach both nationally and internationally. Position:Â Director, Campus Life and Engagement Initiatives

Salary: $55,000 – $60,000

Position Type/Duration:Â Full Time/Grant-funded
Position Schedule: 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday (Extended hours, weekends, and travel may be required)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Departmental Duties
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the department.
• Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate all professional staff, student employees, and interns with the approval of the Vice President of Student Affairs/Athletics.
• Identify and develop new external funding/proposals opportunities for community relations, partnerships, and stewardship/ to assist with retention efforts.
• Coordinate and facilitate scheduled department meetings, retreats, and other development opportunities.
• Identify and participate in local and nationally sponsored professional development opportunities for First-Year Experience, New Student Orientation, International students, transitions and retention, student engagement, clubs/organizations, new trends, and best practices.
• Prepares, administers, and manages the operating budget and expenditures related to the department and respective program cohorts and performs analysis and reporting to support decision-making within the University budget process and Vice President of Student Affairs/Athletics approval.
• Review and approve on-campus facility requests for registered student organizations.
• Sustain, develop, and implement policies and procedures to promote campus life, student activities, involvement, and success.
• Compile and submit weekly, monthly, and annual reports, including program/activity numbers and program/activity evaluations.
• Create, implement, and assess all measurable department and program goals and objectives
Campus Life and Engagement Initiatives
• Serve as the department representative on various university new projects or campaigns, initiatives, committees/task forces designed to increase student engagement and retention.
• Implement and coordinate comprehensive and diverse campus-wide initiatives, programming, practices, and services that support undergraduates’ first/second years, transition, international experience, and success (i.e., Summer Bridge, New Student Orientation, Family Weekends, Alumni Lecture Series, Lyceum, Welcome Weeks, Homecoming, Spring Fest, etc.)
• Collaborate with campus departments, including The Academic Center of Excellence, Transformation and Scholarship, Chapel and Spiritual Engagement, Living Learning Communities, University Advancement, and other student-support areas to coordinate a best-practiced systematic plan of action, co-sponsor events/activities to achieve the strategic transformation goals and support student success.
• Serve as Advisor to the International Students Association (ISA).
• Coordinate with the Lyceum chair and planning committee to develop a structured program series.
• Assist the Dean of Students by serving on the student judicial committee conduct process oriented toward restorative justice and ensuring compliance with college policies and procedures, focusing on providing education and mentoring to students as they navigate the college’s expectations and standards.
• Establish and chair a campus-wide Campus Life and Student Activities “volunteer/advisory board” network comprised of appropriate campus personnel, alum, and community officials.
• Serve as the Office of Student Affairs liaison with the Information Technology (IT) and Media Relations Departments on various department-related comprehensive plans, strategies, materials, content, website development, and other multimedia components supporting the University’s strategic objectives and transformational goals.
• Establish and maintain relationships with students through campus events, informal interactions, and organized programs and workshops.
Greek Life
• Serve as an advisory resource when necessary for Greek Life and its affiliated undergraduate chapters, governing councils, and executive boards (i.e., The National Pan-Hellenic Council, NPHC).
• Greek Life and its governing councils and executive boards (National Pan-Hellenic Council and other identified Honor Societies)
• Assist with planning and coordinating Greek Life campus and community-wide events, training, workshops, philanthropies, and activities to include but are not limited to Greek Week, Recruitment Week, and National Hazing Prevention Week
Other
• Work an unconventional schedule, including evenings and weekends, to support campus programs and activities.
• Attend scheduled Departmental meetings, retreats, and other professional development opportunities.
• Serve on various campus and community committees as deemed necessary
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Student Affairs/Athletics or designee to support the University’s Mission and the Department’s goals.
EDUCATION
• Master’s degree in Student Affairs or related field.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Standard office environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 5 – 7 years related experience required.
• Experience in leadership and advisory roles with student organizations
• Experience in campus and community programming
• Experience with budget management and fundraising.
• Must be able to organize, schedule, and implement activities to benefit the campus community.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and other related student engagement programs and software
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Construct and maintain significant relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community officials.
• Working knowledge of college student development theory and a solid commitment to the enhancement of the intellectual, cultural, social, physical, and moral development of students
Maintain high professional standards and attitudes toward customer service.
