ABOUT VOORHEES UNIVERSITY
In celebration of its 125th year of existence on April 7, 2022, Voorhees College was renamed Voorhees University to honor founder, Elizabeth Evelyn Wight. Voorhees University is a private, diverse, historically black, coeducational, liberal arts, baccalaureate degree-granting institution affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Located in rural Denmark, South Carolina, the University serves traditional and nontraditional students primarily from South Carolina and the southeastern region of the United States; however, seeks to expand our reach both nationally and internationally. Position: Director, Financial Aid and Scholarships
Department/Division: Financial Aid/Enrollment Management
Salary Range: $55,000- $65,000
FLSA Classification: Salaried, Exempt
Position Type/Duration: Full Time/12 months
Position Schedule: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday (Extended hours, weekends, and travel may be required)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Analyze and interpret regulations and implement policies and procedures established by funding agencies and/or the institution to ensure program compliance and the institutional integrity of its financial aid program.
• Formulates policies and procedures to address the unique needs of the University and the students it serves.
• Establishes and ensures the implementation of internal policies and procedures related to packaging and awarding federal, state, institutional and private aid to ensure no audit findings.
• Coordinate office activities with other administrative offices to initiate new procedures; install new technology, identify problems, and implement solutions to improve the effectiveness of the financial aid operation.
• Manage institutional scholarship programs, including endowed and donor-funded awards, academic merit, and need-based programs.
• Collaborate with Advancement, academic units, and departments to develop and manage scholarship criteria, selection, and reporting.
• Coordinate the processing and submission of the institution’s federal fiscal operations report (FISAP) and application for funding, account for the utilization of funds, and complete statistical reports and surveys.
• Administer all Title IV funds Programs as well as all other state supported financial aid programs, and institutional aid programs to ensure no audit findings.
• Provide management, supervision and direction for financial aid staff.
• Develop an ongoing training program for staff and evaluate productivity.
• Oversee and coordinate the U.S. Department of Education Electronic data Exchange and the PowerFAIDS financial aid processing system to ensure that all appropriate updates are installed and staff trained.
• Conduct and/or assist with on and off campus community education programs (Financial Aid Nights at area high schools and Financial Aid Awareness activities on the campus).
• Develop and publish sound financial aid policies and procedures in keeping with the institution’s mission, goals and philosophy.
• Develop financial aid packages to meet the needs of our students and award accordingly.
• Authorize and supervise the transfer of funds to the Business Office for disbursing student accounts.
• Counsel students and parents regarding financial aid programs, the availability of aid and the
process that must be completed to receive aid.
• Responsible for developing office policies and procedures to ensure programmatic integrity and excellent customer service.
• Complete staff evaluations and make recommendations regarding the evaluations, promotions or dismissals.
• Coordinate activities with the Registrar’s Office, the Admissions Office, the Business Office, Student Services, etc., to ensure students receive all eligible services and aid in a timely manner.
• Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate financial aid staff.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and professional environment with a focus on staff development and service excellence.
• All other duties as required by the Director for the successful operation and management of the Financial Aid Office, and state, federal and private financial aid programs it administers for Voorhees University.

EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s degree required. Masters preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to be flexible and creative.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word processing software.
