In celebration of its 125th year of existence on April 7, 2022, Voorhees College was renamed Voorhees University to honor founder, Elizabeth Evelyn Wight. Voorhees University is a private, diverse, historically black, coeducational, liberal arts, baccalaureate degree-granting institution affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Salary Range: $55,000 – $65,000
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Position Type/Duration: Institution and Grant funded/Full-time
Position Schedule: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (extended hours, evenings and weekends required)

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION

Reporting directly to the Vice President for University Advancement, the Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for providing strategic leadership, coordination, and execution of the University’s marketing, communications, branding, and media relations efforts. This position ensures institutional continuity, strengthens brand identity, enhances public awareness, and supports enrollment, advancement, and community engagement priorities.

The Director serves as the University’s primary steward of brand standards, messaging, and visual identity and works collaboratively across campus to promote institutional goals through effective storytelling, digital presence, and media engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential roles and responsibilities of the Director of Marketing and Communications include:

  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of Voorhees University through strategic marketing and communications initiatives.
  • Provides direction, coordination, design, layout, distribution, and quality control of University publications and marketing materials.
  • Oversees institutional branding to ensure consistency across print, digital, and multimedia platforms.
  • Writes, edits, and manages content for the University website and digital communication channels.
  • Develops and disseminates internal communications to enhance awareness of campus events and initiatives among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of official University stationery, business cards, invitations, publications, and templates.
  • Maintains and archives official University photography and visual assets.
  • Coordinates communication professionals (photographers, videographers, designers) in support of University events and initiatives.
  • Writes and distributes press releases, public service announcements, and media advisories related to institutional activities.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with media representatives, community partners, and campus stakeholders.
  • Enhances public awareness and reputation of the University at the local, state, regional, and national levels.
  • Collaborates with Advancement, Enrollment Management, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs to align messaging and campaigns.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President for University Advancement.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required; coursework in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience in writing, editing, and content development.
  • Experience with print and digital media production.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience in higher education or affiliated organizations preferred.
