Position: Financial Aid Counselor: Federal/State Programs Coordinator
Department/Division: Financial Aid/Business & Fiscal Affairs
Salary Range: $32,000 – $38,000
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Position Type/Duration: Full Time/12 months
Position Schedule: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (some extended hours and travel may be required)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Processes financial aid applications and determine eligibility and award accordingly.
- Maintain financial aid folders on all traditional students receiving state, federal and/or private financial assistance to ensure no audit exceptions in this area.
- Request U.S. Dept. Of Education Verification documents and complete the Verification Process according to federal guidelines.
- Responsible for data entry for assigned students to include application processing, ISIR corrections, award notifications and revisions, if required.
- Conduct Registrations and Information Sessions for freshmen, transfer and new students.
- Ensure that all financial aid awarded is credited to student accounts in a timely manner to include certifying loan and submitting the promissory note to Student Loan Coordinator for transmitting to Guarantor.
- Counsel students and parents in the financial aid concerning the types of assistance available and the application procedure.
- Calculate student eligibility for financial aid according to state and federal regulations and award accordingly.
- Do comprehensive follow-up to ensure that students apply for financial aid in a timely manner.
- Ensure that all files are complete before releasing aid to students’ accounts.
- Conduct Adult and Continuing Education Registrations, Financial Aid Workshops and Information Sessions.
- Process and submit the electronic report for requesting of the South Carolina Tuition Grant Program.
- Reconciliation of the SCTG program. Review and ensure that all SCTG awardees eligibility are met prior to requesting State Grant Funds.
- Process and submit the electronic report for requesting of the South Carolina LIFE and HOPE Scholarship programs funds for eligible students.
- Prepare South Carolina LIFE, HOPE, and SCTG scholarship transmittals for submission to the Business Office for crediting to student’s account.
- Reconcile SC LIFE and HOPE Scholarship funds with the SC Commission on Higher Education and the Institution’s Disbursement Report to ensure no audit exceptions in the state grant programs.
- Supervise Federal Work-Study Students in absence of Assistant Director.
- All other duties as required for the successful operation and administration of the Office of Financial Aid and the state, federal and private financial aid programs it administers..
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required.
