Position: Staff Accountant
Department/Division: Accounting/Business and Fiscal Affairs
Salary: $40,000 – $45,000
FLSA Classification: Salaried, Exempt
Position Type/Duration: Full Time/Grant funded
Position Schedule: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (some extended hours may be required)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares and processes payroll for all employees for transmission to external source.
  • Maintains time card and master card file for wages and hourly employees.
  • Prepares and transmits employees benefit reports to appropriate agencies through accounts payable.
  • Transmits federal work-study payroll monthly.
  • Enters all journal entry transactions on a daily basis.
  • Reconciles college bank accounts monthly.
  • Reconciles financial aid loan transactions monthly.
  • Reconciles chargebacks monthly.
  • Reviews all unrestricted expenditure request according to budget.
  • Assists in collecting financial data in preparing financial reports.
  • Performs month-end closeout procedures as needed.
  • Performs any other duties that as assigned by immediate supervisor.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in business and/or accounting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices.
  • Three (3) years of successful experience in bookkeeping or accounting procedures.
  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of word processing.
  • Ability to prepare and to type financial statements and reports
