Blackwell appointed chief of staff
January 29, 2013
To begin the 2013 spring semester, President Cleveland L. Sellers, Jr. has appointed Samuel Blackwell to the position of chief of staff.
This appointment includes the coordination of the recruitment, admissions, financial aid and retention initiatives on campus.
Blackwell will work closely with the vice presidents and directors of those areas to ensure strategic planning and management to achieve the institution's enrollment goals. Additionally, Blackwell will chair the enrollment management committee as well as the retention committee. President Sellers' goal is to increase enrollment to approximately 1200 within the next five years.
Blackwell has served at Voorhees College in numerous positions for more than 20 years. Those roles include special assistant to the president for planning, the interim vice president for academic affairs on two occasions, associate vice president for institutional advancement, vice president of institutional advancement, and most recently, vice president for planning and information technology.
Voorhees' recent accomplishment of being reaffirmed accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools was spearheaded by Blackwell. This was the third consecutive time Blackwell led Voorhees through a successful reaffirmation.
Blackwell received a master's degree in city and regional planning from The Ohio State University and a bachelor's degree from Johnson C. Smith University in political science.
"I appreciate this appointment from President Sellers," Blackwell said. "As the chief of staff, I work diligently to ensure the institution meets its retention and recruitment goals."
