Pendergrass and Brown named Voorhees’ Mr. and Miss Homecoming 2010-2011

Jeffery Deviyon Pendergrass, a native of Rock Hill, S.C., is Mr. Homecoming 2010-2011. Pendergrass will officially accept his title during the men's halftime game on Saturday, Nov. 13.   

Pendergrass is a senior at Voorhees College majoring in business administration with a concentration in finance.   

He is the son of Jackie Brown and Otis Osbourne, and he graduated from Rock Hill High School in 2007.   

Post graduation, Pendergrass plans to attend graduate school at the University of South Carolina and receive his master's degree in psychology. 

Pendergrass is a member of the Eta Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the track team at Voorhees. He recently made history at Voorhees by becoming the first indoor and outdoor national champion at the institution.  During the 2010 National Independent Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Track and Field Championship, he came in first place in the 200-meter race. In addition, he placed sixth out of 30 competitors in the 100-meter race.   

His spiritual quote in life is, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Kayla Denise Brown, a senior criminal justice major, was recently named Miss Homecoming 2010-2011.  

Brown competed against four other young ladies to earn the title.   Brown will also officially be crowned Miss Homecoming 2010-2011 during halftime of the men's basketball game on Saturday, Nov. 13.   

Brown is a native of Sumter, S.C. and the daughter of Ernest L. Vaughn and Michelle A. Toney. Brown is a 2007 graduate of Sumter High School.   

At Voorhees, Brown has made the dean's list each year at Voorhees. In addition, she is a member of the Eta Phi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a student orientation leader and senior class president.   

After graduating from Voorhees, Brown plans to attend the police academy and eventually become a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent.   

Brown's philosophy of life is, "Never let yesterday's disappointment overshadow tomorrow's dreams." 

Following the crowing of Mr. and Miss Homecoming, Voorhees College will also recognize its 2010 Alumni Hall of Fame Honorees. The honorees this year are Kathleen Lebby Faust, Joseph T. Price, Milton Mel Gaines, Rosia Speach Gardner and Alfonso Lamback Sr.
