Denmark, S.C. —September 23, 2025 – Voorhees University proudly announces that Student Health Ambassadors Jaydon Robinson, a junior majoring in Business with a concentration in Entrepreneurship, and Dahjmere Reddick, a freshman majoring in Childhood Development, have achieved certification as Community Health Workers (CHWs). This milestone strengthens Voorhees University’s commitment to advancing health equity and expanding access to essential health services across Bamberg County and surrounding communities.
Community Health Workers are frontline public health professionals who serve as trusted liaisons between communities and the healthcare and social services available to them. With this certification, Robinson and Reddick are prepared to deliver culturally competent outreach, health education, and advocacy—helping individuals navigate the healthcare system while addressing disparities and fostering trust within the community.
Robinson and Reddick completed an eight-week training and fieldwork program at South Carolina State University through its CHW Training Program.
“I am very proud of Jaydon and Dahjmere,” said Suzanne Williams, Director of Health Services at Voorhees University. “As we continue to advance the HBCU Health Discovery Program initiative Tiger I.M.P.A.C.T., a major component of the Rural Community Development Institute supported by the SC Center for Rural and Primary Healthcare, this accomplishment highlights our ongoing efforts to decrease healthcare disparities in our community. We now have four students who have successfully completed the CHW certification, and their impact in engaging and assisting community members is already being felt. Their dedication strengthens Voorhees University’s role as a pillar of health and wellness for both our campus and the surrounding area.”
This achievement further supports the mission of the HBCU Health Discovery Program by equipping student health ambassadors with hands-on training and real-world experience in public health. It underscores Voorhees University’s commitment to enhancing community well-being while preparing students for leadership roles in health advocacy and service.
