Voorhees University Announces Denmark Mayor Harold Johnson & First Lady Dr. Shannon Johnson as Grand Marshals for 2025 Homecoming Parade

Denmark, S.C. – Voorhees University proudly announces that Denmark Mayor Harold Johnson and his wife, First Lady Dr. Shannon Johnson, will serve as Grand Marshals for the University’s 2025 Homecoming Parade, a signature event celebrating the pride and spirit of Voorhees.

The Homecoming Parade will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 10 a.m., traveling from Downtown Denmark to the Voorhees University campus.

A lifelong resident of Denmark, Mayor Johnson is a pillar of the community known for his steadfast service, leadership, and compassion. For 45 years, he has served as a dedicated Pharmacy Technician at Daniel’s Pharmacy, providing care and support to generations of residents in his hometown.

In addition to his longstanding professional service, Mayor Johnson is deeply committed to faith and civic engagement. He serves as a devout Elder at The City of Refuge Church and Chair of the Bamberg County CFUND Highway Commission. He is also the owner of Angel Charter Tours, a local transportation business that reflects his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to community connection.

Mayor Johnson continues to embody the values of leadership, faith, and community uplift that align with Voorhees University’s mission. His life’s work stands as a testament to service and dedication to progress in Denmark and Bamberg County.

In reflecting on this year’s honor, Mayor Johnson shared, “I am excited to ‘Bring Back the Glory to the City of Denmark’ and proud to serve as Grand Marshal representing the people of Denmark as we continue to bridge partnerships with our educational institutions.”

Voorhees University President Dr. Ronnie Hopkins praised the Johnsons’ selection as Grand Marshals, stating, “Mayor and First Lady Johnson are exemplary community leaders whose service reflects the heart and heritage of Denmark. Their commitment to civic engagement and faith-driven leadership represents the very best of what Voorhees University strives to instill in its students.”

The community is invited to line the parade route and join Voorhees alumni, students, faculty, and friends for a festive morning filled with Tiger pride, school spirit, and hometown celebration.
