Denmark, SC, -Voorhees University will proudly celebrate its rich legacy and enduring mission during Founder’s Week, taking place April 8–12, 2026, with a series of commemorative events honoring the vision of founder Elizabeth Evelyn Wright and the institution’s continued commitment to faith, scholarship, service, and social justice.
The week’s signature event, the 129th Founder’s Day Convocation, will be held on Thursday, April 9, featuring The Reverend Lester V. Mackenzie, AHC, Episcopal priest and Chief of Mission Program in the Office of the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, as the keynote speaker.
Reverend Mackenzie is widely recognized for his leadership in advancing reconciliation, racial justice, and global mission initiatives. A native of South Africa and third-generation priest, his work is deeply rooted in unity, healing, and transformative leadership—values that align closely with the founding principles of Voorhees University.
“Founder’s Week is a sacred time for the Voorhees University community as we honor our history and reaffirm our purpose,” said Dr. Ronnie Hopkins, President and CEO of Voorhees University. “The Reverend Lester Mackenzie brings a powerful message of reconciliation, justice, and servant leadership that reflects the very foundation upon which this institution was built.”
