Voorhees University Announces Founder’s Week Celebration, April 8–12, 2026

Denmark, SC, -Voorhees University will proudly celebrate its rich legacy and enduring mission during Founder’s Week, taking place April 8–12, 2026, with a series of commemorative events honoring the vision of founder Elizabeth Evelyn Wright and the institution’s continued commitment to faith, scholarship, service, and social justice.

The week’s signature event, the 129th Founder’s Day Convocation, will be held on Thursday, April 9, featuring The Reverend Lester V. Mackenzie, AHC, Episcopal priest and Chief of Mission Program in the Office of the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, as the keynote speaker.

Reverend Mackenzie is widely recognized for his leadership in advancing reconciliation, racial justice, and global mission initiatives. A native of South Africa and third-generation priest, his work is deeply rooted in unity, healing, and transformative leadership—values that align closely with the founding principles of Voorhees University.

“Founder’s Week is a sacred time for the Voorhees University community as we honor our history and reaffirm our purpose,” said Dr. Ronnie Hopkins, President and CEO of Voorhees University. “The Reverend Lester Mackenzie brings a powerful message of reconciliation, justice, and servant leadership that reflects the very foundation upon which this institution was built.”

  • 12:30 p.m. – Founder’s Tribute | Memorial Garden
  • 1:00 p.m.  – Reception | Massachusetts Hall
  • 3:00 p.m. – Documentary Screening | St. James Auditorium

Friday, April 10 – Spring Fashion Show

  • 7:00 p.m. – Massachusetts Hall Auditorium

Saturday, April 11 – Presidential Scholarship Gala

  • 4:00 p.m. – Prep Program Photo Op | Dawson Gym
  • 5:00 p.m. – Reception | Poolside
  • 6:00 p.m. – Program

The Presidential Scholarship Gala serves as a signature event celebrating student achievement and the continued investment in academic excellence at Voorhees University.

Sunday, April 12 – Gospel Spring Concert

  • 4:00 p.m. – Gospel Choir Performance | Dawson Gym

Founder’s Week offers students, alumni, faculty, and the broader community an opportunity to reflect on Voorhees University’s historic impact while celebrating its future as a leading institution committed to developing globally conscious leaders.
