Denmark, S.C. – Dr. Angela W. Peters will join Voorhees University as the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. She was appointed to the role after distinguishing herself as a transformational and data-driven leader.
An experienced leader in higher education, Dr. Peters has served in roles of increasing responsibility over the past 30 years as a professor, department chair, vice provost and provost. Most recently, she was the Chief Academic Officer and Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs at Albany State University (ASU) in Albany GA. Prior to her tenure at ASU, Peters served at various levels of leadership at Claflin University, Orangeburg, SC as Vice Provost of Academic Programs, Department Chair of Chemistry and Professor of Chemistry.

Peters serves on several committees and boards at national and state levels and holds membership in several professional organizations that promote education, literacy and STEM. She has received numerous awards and accolades that include the South Carolina Governors Professor Award, the White House Millennium Teaching Award and awards from the American Chemical Society (E. Ann Nalley Award for Volunteer Service and the Stanley C. Israel award for Advancing Diversity in the Chemical Sciences).
Peters earned both the bachelors and master’s degree in chemistry from Hampton University and the doctorate in biochemistry from the University of South Carolina, Columbia SC. She also attended the Management Development Program at Harvard University’s Institute for Higher Education.
Peters is married to Dr. Stephen G. Peters and they have four children and seven grandchildren.
