Voorhees University Celebrates Second Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast and Announces Honorees for Local Drum Major for Justice Awards 

Voorhees University is proud to announce the recipients of the prestigious Drum Major for Justice Award, which will be presented during the second annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast. The event will take place on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 7:45 AM in the Leonard E. Dawson Gymnasium on the university’s campus. 

This year’s honorees exemplify Dr. King’s legacy through their unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and community service. The 2025 Drum Major for Justice Award recipients are:

· Allendale         Mrs. Lottie Lewis

·         Bamberg         Representative Justin Bamberg

·         Barnwell          Lt. Eric Kirkland

·         Blackville         Mr. David Kenner

·         Denmark         Rev. Evert Comer

·         Norway           Rev. James Holiday

·         Olar                 Elder Willie Priester

Additionally, Dr. Gerald Wright will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his tireless dedication to community, civil rights, and justice.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast is an annual tradition at Voorhees University, providing an opportunity to reflect on the profound impact of Dr. King’s vision and to honor those who carry forward his ideals in their communities. This year’s event promises to be an inspiring celebration of service and leadership. 

Voorhees Community Relations Liaison, Dr. Thelma Sojourner, expressed the university’s excitement about the event, stating, “This breakfast is more than just a gathering; it’s a celebration of the spirit of service that Dr. King championed. We are honored to recognize these outstanding individuals who embody his principles in their daily lives.”
