Voorhees University Receives $1,000 Food Pantry Donation from                   Columbia (SC) Chapter of the Links, Inc.

Voorhees University recently received a generous donation of $1,000 from the Columbia, SC Chapter of The Links, Incorporated for the University’s Tiger Food Pantry. This contribution will support efforts to address food insecurity among Voorhees University students.

The Tiger Food Pantry, established in the Fall of 2020 by Voorhees alumna Allison Clark and the Denmark Alumnae Chapter, serves as a vital resource for students facing food insecurity. Multiple alumni chapters, campus organizations, and community partners have contributed to its ongoing sustainability. Located on the first floor of Halmi Hall, the University’s first-year male living and learning community, the pantry operates with a model resembling a small grocery store. Stocked with non-perishable food items, frozen goods, snacks, and essential hygiene products, it provides students with free access to necessities. The pantry is managed by a dedicated team of student employees and volunteers who oversee daily operations and restocking efforts.

The Columbia, SC Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, a not-for-profit, service-oriented organization established in 1952, is dedicated to enriching and supporting African American communities through civic, educational, and intercultural initiatives. “We are honored to support Voorhees University in its efforts to aid students through this initiative,” said Tonya T. Green, President of the Columbia (SC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. “This directly aligns with our mission to enrich lives through service and address pressing needs within our communities.”

Kenntrail L. Grooms, M.A., Assistant Dean for Living and Learning Community Engagement at Voorhees University, expressed deep appreciation for the donation. “We are deeply thankful for this contribution from The Links, Incorporated. Their generosity will have a meaningful impact on the lives of our students, ensuring they have access to essential resources that support their academic success and well-being,” he said.
