DENMARK, SC, — Voorhees University sophomore standout Jayden Burris has earned national recognition as the NAIA Men’s National Athlete of the Week, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on March 30, 2026. This prestigious honor marks a significant milestone in Burris’ rapidly ascending track and field career.
A native of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Burris has emerged as one of the premier jumpers in the NAIA, competing in both the triple jump and long jump. During the indoor season, he recorded an impressive mark of 15.62 meters (51-3) in the triple jump at the NAIA Indoor Championships, earning a podium finish and national recognition. His collegiate personal best has surpassed 16 meters, positioning him among the nation’s elite competitors.
“Jayden’s dedication, discipline, and drive exemplify the spirit of excellence we cultivate at Voorhees University,” said Dr. Ronnie Hopkins, President and CEO of Voorhees University. “We are incredibly proud of his achievements and look forward to his continued success as he represents our institution on the national stage.”
Burris’ national honor adds to an already impressive list of accolades in 2026. He was previously named the HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Preseason Field Athlete of the Year and earned HBCUAC Field Athlete of the Week honors following a dominant early outdoor performance.
Before joining Voorhees, Burris was a standout athlete at Northwestern High School, where he excelled in both sprint and jumping events. Since focusing on horizontal jumps at the collegiate level, his development has accelerated, transforming him into a legitimate national contender known for his speed, explosiveness, and refined technique.
As the outdoor season gets underway, Burris’ performances continue to elevate the Voorhees University track and field program, bringing increased visibility and momentum to the Tigers. With strong early-season results, expectations are high as he sets his sights on a potential national title.
