Voorhees University proudly announces that Ashanti Wright, a Senior Child Development major and Student Health Ambassador, has been selected for a paid internship with the South Carolina Department of Public Health (SC DPH). Ashanti is one of only 10 students across the state chosen for this highly competitive opportunity.
As part of her role with SC DPH, Ashanti will serve as an HIV Prevention Champion on the Voorhees University campus. Her responsibilities include promoting HIV prevention and awareness among her peers, collaborating with community partners to organize testing events, and advocating for public health initiatives.
“We are incredibly proud of Ashanti for earning this prestigious opportunity,” said Suzanne Williams, Director of Health Services at Voorhees University. “Her selection is a testament to her dedication to public health and her leadership on campus. This internship will not only allow her to make a significant impact in our community but also prepare her for a future as a public health advocate in any setting.”
The internship, which will take place during the Spring 2025 semester (January–April), provides Ashanti with a platform to make a meaningful impact in her community. There is also a potential for the internship to be extended into the Summer or Fall 2025 terms.
This opportunity highlights Ashanti’s commitment to public health and reflects Voorhees University’s dedication to fostering student leadership and community engagement.
