Voorhees University Students Selected for the 2025 National Intercollegiate Band

Denmark, SC, October 21, 2024–Voorhees University is proud to announce that two of its students have been selected to participate in the prestigious 2025 National Intercollegiate Band (NIB). The ensemble will perform at the National Conference of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), scheduled for March 26-29, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas, hosted by Bobby R. Francis and the Texas Christian University School of Music.

Voorhees students, Dominique Snodey, a sophomore Euphonium player from Jacksonville, Florida, and Akhila Walsh, a freshman Oboist/flautist from Dekalb County, Georgia, will join talented musicians from across the country. Their participation in this national ensemble highlights their dedication and musical skill, reflecting the university’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded students through various collegiate enrichment activities.

This year’s National Intercollegiate Band will feature James E. Jackson III, from the Hartt School at the University of Hartford, as the clinician and conductor. It is a significant honor for the students to represent Voorhees University, as this marks the first year of the university’s band program. The band is sponsored by the CBDNA, and the selection of these students is a noteworthy achievement for the fledgling program.

“The selection of our students for the National Intercollegiate Band is a tremendous honor, especially considering this is our first year with a band program,” said Eddie Ellis, Band Director at Voorhees University. “We are committed to providing our students with enrichment opportunities that reenforce academics as they develop their talents. As Socrates stated, ‘to educate the whole student, the study of music must be present.”

The Small Band Programs Intercollegiate Band offers students from smaller institutions and music programs the chance to participate in a high-quality performing ensemble. Eligibility includes colleges and universities with enrollments of approximately 5,000 or fewer students, as well as larger institutions with developing band programs.
