Denmark, SC – March 17, 2025 – Voorhees University proudly announces that two exceptional students from the School of Science, Technology, Health, and Human Services (SSTHHS) have been selected to present their research posters at the upcoming Association of Computer Science Departments at Minority Institutions (ADMI) Symposium. The conference, themed “Enhancing AI Capacity at Minority-Serving Institutions,” will take place from March 27-30, 2025, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Shemar Stewart, a first-generation college student and White House HBCU Scholar, is pursuing a degree in Computer Science. His research focuses on image segmentation and CT image reconstruction, exploring computational algorithms to enhance medical imaging techniques. Beyond academics, Stewart serves as the vice president of the President’s Student Advisory Board, advocating for student concerns and contributing to campus initiatives. He aims to leverage his skills in technology and leadership to drive meaningful impact in both academia and industry.
Ashley Chambers, a junior Computer Science major, is the president of the STARS Computing Corps. She has a passion for technology, data engineering, and app development, with experience in Python, SQL, and web development. Chambers actively engages in leadership roles on campus, organizing tech initiatives and media projects. She is also conducting research in computer science and cybersecurity. As president of the President’s Student Advisory Council, Chambers strives to foster innovation and community growth.
Their joint presentation at the ADMI Symposium will explore the increasing cybersecurity risks in vehicle manufacturing and the digitization of transportation systems, including cars and planes. As the automotive and aerospace industries embrace advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) systems, they become more vulnerable to cyber threats. The presentation will examine real-world case studies, including high-profile hacking attempts in the automotive and aviation sectors, to underscore the urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity measures in safeguarding the future of transportation.
“We are immensely proud of Shemar Stewart and Ashley Chambers for their exceptional achievements. Their acceptance to present at the ADMI Conference not only highlights their dedication and hard work but also underscores the caliber of scholarship within our School of Science, Technology, Health, and Human Services. Their research addresses critical issues in cybersecurity and technology, reflecting our commitment to addressing real-world challenges through academic excellence.” — Dr. Cheryl Swanier, Dean and Professor at Voorhees University.
Voorhees University remains dedicated to fostering scholarly excellence and providing platforms for students to showcase their research on national stages. The participation of Stewart and Chambers in the ADMI Symposium highlights the university’s role in advancing knowledge and contributing to critical discussions in the field of computer science.
