Voorhees University to Celebrate 128th Commencement and Baccalaureate Ceremonies Featuring Acclaimed Actor John Marshall Jones as Commencement Speaker

Denmark, S.C. – Voorhees University proudly announces its 128th Commencement Ceremony, to be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Gymnasium, located at 5573 Voorhees Road, Denmark, SC 29042. This year’s ceremony will feature critically acclaimed television, film, and stage actor John Marshall Jones as the keynote speaker.

John Marshall Jones, affectionately known as “JJ,” currently stars as Coach Shaw in All American: Homecoming and Nelson Bradford in For All Mankind (Apple TV+). He is also known for his work as Uncle Ronny in Paradise Lost (Paramount), and for co-executive producing and starring in the hit Bounce TV comedy In The Cut. Over his distinguished career, Jones has appeared in more than 200 television episodes and 20 feature films, with notable roles in Big Little Lies, 9-1-1, S.W.A.T., Grace and Frankie, The Morning Show, NCIS: Hawai’i, Quantum Leap, Criminal Minds, and more.

Outside of acting, Jones is the national spokesperson for Guide Right and the creator of Kappa League TV (kappaleague.tv), an innovative media platform designed to empower and mentor young men of color through leadership development and storytelling.

“John Marshall Jones is not only a celebrated actor, but also a passionate advocate for education and youth empowerment,” said Voorhees University President Dr. Ronnie Hopkins. “His presence at our 128th Commencement Ceremony will undoubtedly inspire our graduates as they prepare to write their own powerful stories of leadership and purpose in the world.”

In celebration of the graduating class’s academic and personal achievements, Voorhees University will also host its 2025 Baccalaureate & Hooding Ceremony on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in Massachusetts Hall, 151 Academic Circle, Denmark, SC 29042. This revered tradition honors students’ scholarly accomplishments in a spiritual setting and includes the ceremonial conferral of academic hoods. The keynote address will be delivered by The Reverend Canon Ramelle McCall, offering a message of reflection and encouragement as graduates prepare for their next journey.
