Voorhees University to Enshrine the Inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame Class

DENMARK, SC – Voorhees University will hold its Inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame Induction on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center on the campus. Making up the 2024 Inaugural class will be former athletes, coaches, supporters, three teams and an administrator.

The 2024 Hall of Fame class includes: 

Former Athletes — Prentiss Loadholt (Women’s Basketball), Elnora Jeter (Women’s Basketball), Kierra Patterson (Women’s Basketball), Antonio Bolton (Men’s Basketball), Anthony Davis (Men’s Basketball), Purnell Perry (Men’s Basketball), Allicia Golden-McGee (Track), and Jeffery Pendergrass (Track).

Coaches— Michael Cheaney (Men’s Basketball), Edward Glover (Women’s Basketball), Jeffery Hughes (Track), Frank Hyland (Track), Garon Jackson (Track), Kenneth Sandiford, Posthumously (Track), Shawn Walker (Men’s Basketball), Adrian West (Baseball)

Supporters: Sarah Simpson, Betty Davis, Lenny Springs

Administrator: Dr. Ronnie Hopkins, 10th President and CEO of Voorhees University

The three teams that will be honored include 1995 Men’s and Women’s Basketball and 1996 Men’s Track and Field. Members accepting on behalf of the 1995 Men’s Basketball team are Wand Martin, Albert Nick, Namon Richardson, Darrell Roberts, Purnell Perry, Jackie Simmons, Calvin Fields, Charles Thomas, and Jerald Wilson; accepting on behalf of the 1995 Women’s Basketball team are Prentiss Loadholt and Elnora Jeter; accepting on the behalf of the 1996 Men’s Track and Field team Harrison Conyers, Jr., Nickell Jennings, Garon Jackson, and Frank Hyland (Coach).

Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, Ms. Charlene Johnson, said it was very fitting that Voorhees University is taking this first step to recognize former athletes, coaches, and others for their contribution to the great athletic legacy at the institution. “I am excited that we are recognizing some of the legends in athletics at the university,” said Johnson. “This inaugural class is very significant and includes many of the stars of the past. We are happy to honor each of them and look forward to recognizing others in the future.”
