Voorhees University to Host 2026 Commencement Ceremony with Largest Graduating Class in Over a Decade

Denmark, SC, — Voorhees University is proud to announce its 2026 Commencement Ceremony, to be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. The celebration will honor 139 graduates, the largest graduating class in more than ten years. The ceremony will feature distinguished keynote speaker, Dr. Michael L. Lomax, President and Chief Executive Officer of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF).

The Class of 2026 marks a historic milestone for Voorhees University, not only in its size but in its academic distinction. Among its graduates is an unprecedented number of STEM students who have been accepted to medical school. This is a testament to the University’s growing reputation for excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education and its commitment to cultivating the next generation of healthcare leaders.

“This graduating class represents the very best of what Voorhees University stands for,” said Dr. Ronnie Hopkins, President of Voorhees University. “To have 139 scholars cross this stage — including a record number headed to medical school — is a powerful reflection of their resilience, talent, and purpose. We could not be more proud, and we are honored to welcome Dr. Lomax to share in this momentous occasion.”

Dr. Michael L. Lomax is one of the nation’s foremost advocates for education equity in historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Under his leadership, UNCF has raised more than $5 billion to support HBCU students across the country. Dr. Lomax’s presence at commencement underscores the deep and enduring relationship between Voorhees University and UNCF, and his remarks are expected to challenge and inspire the Class of 2026 as they embark on their professional journeys.
