Voorhees University to Host Percussion Clinic for College and High School Students March 6–7

DENMARK, S.C. – The Department of Bands at Voorhees University will host a Percussion Clinic and Workshop on March 6–7, 2026, welcoming college and high school students from across the region to campus for two days of hands-on instruction, musical development, and ensemble training.

The clinic will take place in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center -Gymnasium on the Voorhees University campus and will feature acclaimed percussion educators Tim Greene and Marc O’Brien as clinicians. Registration is $75 per student.

Designed to strengthen both individual musicianship and ensemble performance, the clinic will focus on essential percussion techniques, timing, groove, rudiments, and creative musical application. Students will receive instruction intended to elevate their personal skills while also benefiting their home school band programs.

“Proper percussion instruction is critical, especially in areas where trained percussion specialists are limited,” said Tim Greene, event organizer. “This clinic provides students and band directors with the tools needed to improve technique, timing, and ensemble cohesion—particularly for programs where directors may have limited percussion experience.”

Tim Greene brings extensive experience as an assistant band director and percussion director, with a background that includes competitive marching ensembles, drum and bugle corps instruction, and music education leadership. Marc O’Brien, a percussion educator and technician at South Carolina State University, has played a key role in collegiate percussion education, student development, and statewide percussion initiative.

The clinic is open to all interested college and high school students and is limited to the first 100 registrants. Instruction will emphasize both technical foundations and musical expression, reinforcing the importance of rhythm as a driving force in ensemble performance.
