Voorhees University Vice President of Student Affairs, Adrian West, to be Installed as President of the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals (NASAP)

Voorhees University proudly announces that Adrian West, Vice President for Student Affairs, will be officially installed as the President of the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals (NASAP) during the organization’s annual conference, taking place February 16-20, 2025, in Houston, TX. West was elected as President-Elect in February 2023 and will now take on the role of President, where he will provide leadership, direction, and advocacy for student affairs professionals primarily at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other diverse higher education settings.

“I am honored to serve as President of NASAP and to continue the organization’s legacy of fostering professional development and advocacy for student affairs professionals,” said West. “As we navigate the evolving landscape of higher education, I look forward to strengthening our network, expanding opportunities for professional growth, and ensuring that our students receive the support and guidance they need to succeed.”

Founded on April 1, 1954, on the campus of Howard University, NASAP has a long-standing tradition of addressing the needs of student affairs professionals. The organization traces its origins to the National Association of Deans of Women and Advisors of Girls in Colored Schools (DOWA), established in 1929, and the National Association of Personnel Deans of Men at Negro Educational Institutions (DOMA), founded in 1935. The two groups merged in 1954 to form the National Association of Personnel Workers (NAPW), which later became NASAP.

NASAP sponsors various programs and events that focus on professional development and the evolving needs of students. In addition, NASAP sponsors an annual summer Student Leadership Institute (SLI) which is an intensive, interactive, and stimulating learning program. It is a six-day program designed for newly elected HBCU student leaders (Student Government Associations, Class Officers, Greek Councils, Student Ambassadors, Programming Boards, Royal Courts) who are committed to uplifting their organizations and their university. The organization is guided by its motto, “Work Is Love Made Visible,” which underscores the commitment of its members to the success and well-being of students and professionals alike.

As President, West will lead initiatives that enhance the training, research, and advocacy efforts of NASAP. His tenure will focus on strengthening partnerships, advancing student affairs practices, and ensuring that professionals serving HBCUs and other diverse institutions have the resources and support they need.

Voorhees University congratulates Adrian West on this prestigious achievement and looks forward to his impactful leadership in NASAP.
