Voorhees University hosting Rural Community Development Institute June 9

Denmark, S.C. – The Voorhees University Becoming Beloved Community Initiative, in conjunction with the South Carolina Institute of Innovation and Information (SCIII), will host the Rural Community Development Institute kickoff program, which will provide information on innovation and educational opportunities related to careers in rural community development.

When:     Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 11 a.m. 

Where:   Massachusetts Hall, Voorhees University Campus 

The Rural Community Development Institute operates as a partner with the South Carolina General Assembly. The purpose of the institute is to develop a collaboration between students, community, and industry leaders, establish a technology center and assist in meeting the broadband needs of the Denmark and Bamberg areas.  

The institute also will connect current and future students with industry leaders, and create educational opportunities through seminars, webinars, and industry-related summits.  

The institute will conduct community assessments related to food and housing insecurities, under- and unemployment, and healthcare disparities.
