Voorhees University packs the bus with school supplies for Denmark and Bamberg students
Denmark, S.C. – Voorhees University will donate backpacks and school supplies to 500 students in Denmark and Bamberg on Aug. 13. The back-to-school items will be available in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot (3386 E Railroad Ave.) in Bamberg from 10 to 11:30 a.m. or while supplies last. They also will be available in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot (18147 Heritage Hwy.) in Denmark from 12 to 1:30 p.m. or while supplies last.
“We are committed to building our relationship with the community and helping all students achieve the next level of excellence,” said Ronnie Hopkins, president of Voorhees University. “We know that families are experiencing challenging financial times, and this is one way for us to support them.”
“Our Pack-the-Bus community service outreach effort helps Voorhees students understand the concept of service learning and volunteerism,” said Charlene Johnson, vice president for student affairs. “During the academic year, our clubs and organizations are involved in service-learning programs that benefit the greater community. Cultivating a culture of volunteerism in higher education will be the catalyst for our students to support their communities this way in their careers.”
Graduating high school seniors, who pick up school supplies, can also get information about enrollment at Voorhees. For more information, call (803) 780-1030 or (866) 685-9904 or apply at voorhees.edu/apply.

Volunteers will consist of representatives from the Department of Athletics, Voorhees Tigers Ambassadors, and student leaders.
